Basic Channel ‘Phylyps Trak II’
Basic Channel, 1994 (Germany) // BC 09
In my college radio station years, music knowledge was transmitted by way of something more akin to the oral storytelling tradition. You had a few record guides, but there weren’t many resources or references to help you get your bearings. Wisdom was handed down through hand-drawn family trees, lists and, sometimes, lectures at staff meetings. At one gathering for my dance oriented show, the ‘Streetbeat’ music director schooled us on the etymology of Basic Channel, Rhythm & Sound and Chain Reaction. That lecture’s largely the reason I've got this copy of 'Phylyps Trak II,’ really the jewel of all minimal dub techno.
