Heldon 'Interface'

Heldon 'Interface'
Superior Viaduct, 2013 / 1977 • SV

Richard Pinhas is a long-time French experimental musician as well as the driving force behind Heldon, an out project that released a number of well-respected progressive rock records in the 70s.

‘Interface’ is considered their classic, and it’s just a rich mix of sequenced synths and Fripp-inspired guitar that alchemize into something slightly reminiscent of a bad acid trip.

This is some seriously sophisticated material, but it’s easier to drop your thinking cap, tune out and just dig on the moody and menacing vision of the future.

Pinhas has been prolific since those days, and in recent years has even performed alongside Wolf Eyes and Merzbow.

The excellent San Francisco-based Superior Viaduct is responsible for this latest reissue, which is packaged with care. That label received a lot of kudos last year (particularly for the Devo and Solaris releases), and this is a can’t-miss in my book.

Here's a 1979 performance in New York City.
